Newly arriving animals should be quarantined for 2 to 4 weeks to prevent the spread of potential infections to the herd. This means they are separated from the rest of the herd, so if they carry a disease, they cannot infect the other animals.
During quarantine, they should be tested for important diseases such as Bovine Viral Diarrhoea Virus (BVDV), which can have a major impact on herd health, as discussed in Module 2.
